What first drew you to music and songwriting?

As a kid, I enjoyed rap music for its unique ability to energize me. Later, I grew to love its social commentary. Eventually, I wanted to contribute back to the world, the mood, and the enrichment rap music gave me.

Who or what has had the greatest influence on you as a writer and performer?

My top three would be: My grandmother, Francis Jones. Martin Luther, the Reformer. Cross Movement, the retired Christian rap group. My grandmother figured out how much I enjoyed the art form and encouraged me to study my school work and compose songs based on my studies. Genius! I became deeply inspired by Martin Luther earlier on in my Christian walk and drew heavily on his personality and biblical insight. Cross Movement was the first Christian rap group I observed and learned much from. They showed me a vision of my own potential and future career/ministry path.

If you had to choose one record, one artist, and one book that has had the most influence on you as an artist, what would they be?

One record and artist/group: Cross Movement’s “House of Representatives.”

One book, as of late: The Book of Concord.

What does your creative process/rhythm look like?

Typically, I’m observing something in the culture. Next, I construct ideas around what I believe I’m seeing. This leads to dialogue with close comrades for further development. After that, I reach out to a cluster of producers for music that fits the soundscape of my observations. The process of research begins here as I delve deeper into my subject matter. After all this is done, I move into the creative process of writing hooks and verses. Free-styling in the studio accompanies me too. Lastly, the songs are developed and scrutinized, and pushed further until I feel they are ready for mass consumption. So fun!

Tell us about your latest release, Christ for You.

“Christ For You” is the second part of my “Extra Nos” series. “Extra Nos” is the name of the first installment. “Christ For You” presents not only the Lutheran understanding of the sacrament of the altar, the Lord’s Supper, but also the view of the ancient church. Generally speaking. My attempt was to show my supporters the sweetness of God’s grace and forgiveness found at the Lord’s table. The term “Christ For You,” emphasizes Jesus’ own words as He instituted the Lord’s Supper. In Luke 22:19-20, Jesus says in reference to the bread and the wine, “This is my body, which is given for you…this cup that is poured out for you….” This incredible mystery not only has a corporate reality but also a deeply personal one. One I want all to see, appreciate, and benefit from.

What are you working on right now?

Currently, I’m constructing a few more projects while further building out for the “Christ For You” EP. This includes breakdowns of each song, podcast, interviews, and visuals to support the music. I’m looking forward to concerts again too. The good ‘ol days, ha!
