Nothing But The Blood

"Nothing But The Blood" was written by Baptist preacher, Robert Lowry (1826-1899). Stylistically, the hymn uses an adapted call and response posing first a question and then providing an answer. The main theme of the song continually points singers and listeners alike to the forgiving work of Christ on the cross.

What can wash away my sin?
Nothin’ but the blood of Jesus
What can make me whole again?
Nothin’ but the blood of Jesus

Oh precious is the flow
that makes me white as snow
No other fount I know
Nothin’ but the blood of Jesus

For my pardon this I see
Nothin’ but the blood of Jesus
For my cleansing this my plea
Nothin’ but the blood of Jesus

Oh precious is the flow
that makes me white as snow
No other fount I know
Nothin’ but the blood of Jesus

Nothing can for sin atone
Nothin’ but the blood of Jesus
Naught of good that I have done
Nothin’ but the blood of Jesus

This is all my hope and peace
Nothin’ but the blood of Jesus
This is all my righteousness
Nothin’ but the blood of Jesus

Oh precious is the flow
that makes me white as snow
No other fount I know
Nothin’ but the blood
Nothin’ but the blood
Nothin’ but the blood of Jesus
