Grow With Us

"The soil is the great connector of lives… Without proper care for it we can have no community, because without proper care for it we can have no life." - Wendell Berry

When I started CommunionArts in 2016, I had no idea what would grow from this seed of an idea. It began as a place to offer resources I’d created for my local congregation to the broader church, and it soon grew to a community of people willing to share their gifts to equip the church and empower artists.

In 2020 when the world was rapidly changing, I was asked to start something new with 1517 (an organization we had regularly partnered with). This necessitated a change for me, and consequently, a time away from CommunionArts. With 1517, I  was able to create some truly impactful music and resources that I believe will continue to serve the church for years to come, and I am beyond grateful for the work we were able to do and the ways we will continue to collaborate.

Now, however, after a few of years of allowing CommunionArts to lie fallow, it is time to return to this field. I am grateful for the community that has come together to work on this soil, and I look forward to working alongside them as together we equip the church with training and creative resources, and empower artists to create fulfilling works that enrich their communities.

Over the next several months, we'll look back at works that have been created and begin to add new resources and works to the site. I invite you to join us as we celebrate past seasons and look toward what is next in this new one. We are eager to continue this work and see the fruit that will grow. We invite you to grow with us.

Sincerely,

Blake Flattley
